Vim newbiew - pound key (#) in insert mode deletes all the text on the selected line

Hi there, vim newbie here. I noticed that whenever I try to use the pound key in insert mode it deletes all the text on the currently selected line.

Using vim 7.3 on Ubuntu 12.04. Looked around on the net and closest thing I could find was a mention of the # key behaving as a backspace here:

Couldn’t make sense of the suggested fix. Anybody have any ideas? Although this does give me a good excuse not to comment my ruby code. :wink:

Haha, figured out what it was. Had a bad colour scheme that was setting comment highlighting to black on a black background.
